The name "Suzani" comes from the Persian word "su-zan", meaning needle. The Indian artisans use a hooked needle instrument called a tambour to create the intricate chain stitches that are characteristic of Suzani embroidery. Due to the manually controlled nature of Suzani embroidery, you may notice slight variations from one garment to another, which adds to the unique charm of a Suzani-decorated item.
